How to read bonus terms
What a bonus is really worth
A R1,000 match at 8x wagering means you place R8,000 in qualifying bets before the bonus unlocks. At 2.0 minimum odds, roughly half those bets must win to stay flat. A R500 bonus at 3x wagering at 1.50 odds requires only R1,500 in bets at much easier prices. Lower wagering plus lower minimum odds always beats a bigger headline.
Wagering requirements
Wagering (also called turnover or rollover) is the multiplier applied to the bonus amount before you can withdraw. 1x to 3x is generous and rare. 5x to 8x is the SA market norm. 10x or above should prompt a careful read of the rest of the T&Cs.
Minimum odds
Qualifying bets must be placed at a minimum decimal price. The SA range is 1.50 to 3.0. A 3.0 minimum is restrictive: it rules out most football draws and any short-priced rugby outright. The Springboks against a tier-2 nation are usually 1.20 to 1.40, which would not count.
Expiry
Bonus expiry ranges from 24 hours (Hollywoodbets no-deposit) to 30 days (Betway, 10bet). A tight expiry forces rushed betting and increases the chance of clearing the bonus at terrible prices. Set a reminder and budget your wagering across the full window.
Withdrawal caps
Some bonuses cap what you can withdraw from winnings. Hollywoodbets caps no-deposit winnings at R1,200. Supabets caps at R3,000. If you plan to stake large amounts on a small bonus, the cap probably restricts your upside.
Wagering basis (bonus only vs bonus + deposit)
Watch for the difference between "wager the bonus" and "wager the deposit plus bonus". 5x on the bonus alone is half the work of 5x on deposit plus bonus. Most SA operators use the friendlier bonus-only basis, but a handful do not. Check before depositing.
Excluded markets and games
Casino bonuses commonly exclude jackpot slots and live dealer tables. Sports bonuses commonly exclude horse racing place-bets, low-margin Asian handicaps at -0.25, and cashed-out bets. Check the excluded list before you build a strategy around a market that won't count toward turnover.
